Whether you call it a bachelorette, a hen party, a stag, a send-off or something else, Dar es Salaam has all the parts: islands for the day, rooftops for the evening, and a nightlife that runs late.
The day: Bongoyo Island
- From
- The Slipway, Msasani
- Crossing
- About 25 minutes
- Best
- Weekday, morning
Boats leave The Slipway for Bongoyo Island, about twenty-five minutes away, with clear shallow water and simple beach grills. Bring water, sunscreen and cash, and check the last boat back. More in things to do in Dar. For a pool instead, beach hotels such as White Sands sell day passes, reportedly around $10 on weekdays and $20 at weekends.
The evening: Midtown, Masaki
- Area
- Masaki
- Type
- Rooftop
- Cake
- Order from us
- Music
- Live music
Full disclosure, this is us. Midtown takes group bookings on its rooftop in Masaki: sunset, live music, a rum-led cocktail list, sharing platters at TSH 100,000, and a cake you can order from us. We also run a ladies' night.
Message or call with the numbers and the date.
The night
The peninsula's clubs and lounges fill after midnight. Check Instagram that week for themed nights, and see ladies' night in Dar and live music.
Keep it smooth
- Book everything, including the boat time.
- One organiser holds the plan and the group chat.
- Bolt for everyone, and agree home time.
- Phones away on the street.
- Respect local norms. Keep costumes and props for private venues, and dress modestly in town.
- Extend it to Zanzibar? See the Zanzibar day trip.

Finish The Day On The Roof
Sunset seating in Masaki, Jamaican and Swahili cooking, and the last of the light over the city. Message or call to book.
Common questions
- What is a good bachelorette party plan in Dar es Salaam?
- An island day, then dinner on a rooftop, then a night out. Take the boat from The Slipway to Bongoyo Island in the morning, head back for a sunset dinner and cocktails in Masaki, then go on to a club on the peninsula. Book everything ahead, and arrange Bolt rides for the whole group.
